Juliana Stone Guest Post And GIVEAWAY

Alpha Men and/or Bad Boys in Romance

I want to thank Nikki for having me. (You’re most welcome and THANK YOU too for being a part of my blogiversary!)  As I type this I’m in a hotel room waiting to fly away to New York City where 2000 romance writers will converge at the Marriot for RWA 2011. (Nikki <– JEALOUS)  Pretty empowering, that…2000 women who have a passion to write.
I love writing romance.  All kinds.  I write about Jaguar Warriors.  Men who are total alpha.  Some people complain that they’re asshat’s.  For me, I love reading about a bad boy who’s been redeemed because of his journey and the love of a woman.

Alpha men…bad boys. Why do we love them so?

I know I do. Who the hell wants to read about a “yes man”? I want a man who will challenge me, fight with me, give me as good as I give and then, well, take me to bed and make my toes curl.

Now, I’m not saying a more refined version won’t do…I have a huge crush on Mathew McFadden. He played Mr. Darcy in my favourite version of Pride and Prejudice. However if I’m being honest, sweet, gentle loving is nice, but hot, nasty loving is exciting!

It’s probably why I love Christine Feehan’s Dark series so much. Her Carpathian men are total alphas. They love their women and protect them to the death. And well, they’re very, very skilled at the whole lovin’ part.

I wanted to bring that out in my books. I wanted my men to love their women with an intensity that hopefully leaves the reader invested and wanting them to have their HEA, even if they’re not always nice and easy on their mates.

I hope I’ve done that.  In His Darkest Hunger, Jaxon and Libby certainly have a lot to work out, but in the end, you know they belong together.  Same with Jagger and Skye.  In His Darkest Salvation, my third Jaguar Warrior book that releases July 26, Julian is in a very dark place.  He’s not nice.  In fact he’s a complete dick.  He needs to find peace and the only person that can help him is his sworn enemy, so yeah, the fireworks are there but with so much in the way will they make it?  That’s what it’s all about. Romance, passion and a couple who will rip your heart out and have you cheering from the sidelines!

I’m curious, what are your favourite types of Heroes in romance? Do we like dark, twisty alphas? Or strong, solid types with a hint of Beta?

Juliana is all kinds of awesome and she has said she will give away 1 print book to a random commenter. You have your choice of The Darkest Hunger or The Darkest Embrace! All you have to do to enter is answer Juliana’s question from up above and leave me a way to get a hold of you if you win! This is open to US and Canadian residents. I will leave the contest open until July 2nd and will post the winner on July 3rd.

  1. Hope you’re having a great time at the RWA.
I want to meet these Jaguar Warriors! For me, the dark, twisted, tormented but utterly redeemable alpha males are those I find most appealing. They have a strong inner core, but a part of them also need some saving, and it takes the right woman to do it.

  2. I definately like the alphas! Strong, determined, protective of what is his, a very dominate man! However, I do not want him to be cruel or abusive in any way. But definately the smoking hottie with great lovin’ skills!

  3. love Dark Bad Boy Alphas! I’m into take Charge Types and Alphas are that type!

  4. I like the strong solid types with a twist of alpha 🙂 The best of both worlds! Thank you for the wonderful post today and the opportunity to win this giveaway opportunity.

  5. If you’ve been on my blog very long this should be blaringly obvious BUT I *may* have a slight thing for alpha men. I *may* get very excited when I read a back cover and it mentions that the hero has a huge chip on his shoulder, is mean, cocky….SCARRED by some horrible past…yes yes yes, Nikki LOVES 🙂

  6. I love books with a Alpha hero because they are so sexy. A lot of the books that I read have alpha hero’s. I love it when they show their softer side to the one that they love.

  7. Alpha all the way! No emo guys for me. I love a dark and tortured hero. I want someone with a past they have to overcome. Those heroes are so much more interesting than the perfect hero.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. I hope you have a fantabulous time at RWA. I’m so jealous! I wanted to go so badly.

I love torutured Alpha’s. All of the reasons you love alpha’s is the same for me. There is nothing better than a man that will do anything to protect the ones he loves. I too want someone who just won’t roll over and do everything because I want them to. I want someone to challenge me. This is why I love alpha’s.

I can’t wait to read Jaxon and Libby’s story. Jaxon really intrigues me and I can’t wait to find out more about him and Libby.

Ps. I too love Matthew McFadden in Pride and Prejudice.

  9. I like alphas who are strong enough to make hard decisions but show a softer side around their loved ones.

  10. I like my heroines to stand on their own two feet. I want them a little sassy and a lot smart. My heroes need to need the heroine. He should have attitude, a little bit of a past and have a sense of humor (that’s huge for me). Thanks for the giveaway. I love shifters. This series sounds good.

  11. This is an amazing series and I love how the heroine of His Darkest Salvation can hold her own with the Alpha hero. I mention the heroine because as much as I love me an Alpha male, I need a heroine who can keep him in line! Great post (You don’t have to enter me, I just wanted to say hi!)
