Deep Kiss Of Winter -Kresley Cole & Gena Showalter

FROM AMAZON: Kresley Cole delivers a breathtaking tale of a brutal vampire soldier about to know love for the first time…and a Valkyrie aching to be touched.

Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela the Ice Maiden — the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can’t be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Soon desperate for closeness, in an agony of frustration, Murdoch and Danii will do anything to have each other. Together, can they find the key that will finally allow them to slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?
First and foremost, let’s talk about the hunky eye candy on the front of this book. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover (and I recently found out authors have little or no control over that, which explains a lot of bad covers) but YOWZERS. Where is this guy in the middle of my Ohio’s winters? I have never seen him walking through the snow around my house. If those jeans sink any lower I won’t even need my imagination….*le sigh*….

This was my first read by Kresley. I broke my rule with this one. What’s my rule? That would be never reading a shorter story by a new to me author first. I tend to be detached in shorter stories. There usually isn’t enough time for me to get involved and care about the characters.

This was borderline for me. I liked the story, but as my first trip into this world I was confused by all the secondary characters and story lines. The story between Murdoch and Danii though was very complete for me. Not being able to be touched left a lot of the sex scenes to their own hands so to speak. HOWEVER, there is one scene with a icicle…*fanning myself*…

I am definitely looking forward to another trip into Kresley’s world soon

FROM AMAZON: GENA SHOWALTER puts a daring spin on a tale of huntress and hunted…and concocts a sensual chemistry that is positively explosive.

Aleaha Love can be anyone — literally. With only skin-to-skin contact, she can change her appearance, assume any identity. Her newest identity switch has made her an AIR (alien investigation and removal) agent and sends her on a mission to capture a group of otherworldly warriors. Only she becomes the captured. Breean, a golden-skinned commander known for his iron will who is at once dangerous and soul-shatteringly seductive, threatens her new life. Because for the first time, Aleaha only wants to be herself….

Gena is quickly becoming a “go to” author for me. This was a fast read and I throughly enjoyed getting to know the world. Aleaha was complex but her sensuality was hotter than fire. Breean was dark, handsome and tough…just how I like em. Having a sci-fi feel to it, I wasn’t sure I would like it, but it didn’t over power the story at all. Wanting to be yourself, whether you’re an alien or human, is a common problem in relationships and Gena certainly does it justice.  I look forward to getting into Gena’s Lords Of The Underworld series…which I own and haven’t had the chance to read yet.

I give Deep Kiss Of Winter 3.75 stars

  1. Nikki, you have to get the books in the IAD series by Cole and read them in order for a short story to make sense… However glad that you found the story likeable anyway…

Gena Showalter is the other half of this equation, have not read all of her work but have a big stack of it on my TBR shelf including this particular book with she and Cole … I am now putting it ahead of some others if only to um find that “icicle” escapade!!

Thanks for the review that finally nudged me enough to put the book back on my radar, it has been in my TBR pile since release day!

  2. Jackie, yeah that’s exactly why I generally don’t read the short stories first…for that very reason. However I still enjoyed the story..I just need to read more first lol. The icicle part, wow. That’s all I’m gonna say bout that 🙂

I’m glad I’m not the only one with a massive amount of books starting at me. I am overwhelmed at the moment. If only my kids didn’t insist on eating and being underneath my feet constantly…I might get more reading done!

    1. Nikki, I have a huge TBR collection and do not have the problem with kids my problem is cannot stop buying new books in series I already follow and finding used books that can get from Paperback Swap in older series that have never read but want to !

The Book Depository is so cheap compared to the others cannot help but go nuts with no S&H and no tax to pay and no driving time or gas spent… Amazon and Borders and B&N all have so many free downloadable e-reads that my computer is loaded also so will have books for probably years to come to read!

My biggest problem is my computer time wasting, instead of reading right now am answering emails and blog hopping on posts to comment on… Have a great day!

      jackie ^_^
