SOME FLAMES ARE ETERNAL

Tasked with protecting humanity from harm, the last thing Ashe Granger was searching for on his mission was his destined mate. Then, a mysterious darkeyed beauty reluctantly offered him shelter. A spark of danger—and a soul-deep recognition—ignited a burning, carnal need…

Since her family’s exile, Juliana Sabin had borne full responsibility for their safety. So when evil struck, she
had no choice but to ally herself with the sexy guardian vampire. Now, months later, Ashe is back and tempting Juliana to reveal her darkest secrets…and desires. For the killer stalking the shadows isn’t acting alone—and he won’t rest until his deadly cravings are fulfilled.

No recap because unfortunately I’m DNFing this one. The story starts out slow and for me, I just couldn’t get into it. The characters of Ashe and Juliana were okay until I hit a slight snag. Juliana is in trouble. Major trouble. She’s broken out of the compound her entire family has been condemned to in order to try and prove their innocence in a crime they did not commit.  She is aided by an unknown person who told her how to get out of the compound and gave her the tools necessary to do it. It may only be me and I know she was desperate to escape but trusting an unknown person is usually not the smartest thing to do. Then she runs straight to Ashe who was told where to find her by supposedly the same unknown person. She confides, part-way at least, in Ashe and he tells her he’ll help her…IF she sleeps with him. At that point Ashe lost all likability for me. I just kept thinking, way to make the girl you can’t stop thinking about feel like a whore. Juliana totally rolls over, literally, and says okay fine. No. Just no. Have some self respect girl. Put up a bit more of a fight then that. I was done. I made it a bit longer into the book but not much. I’m sure everything works out in the end and he realizes he can’t stop the mating process, that he cares for her and Juliana realizes she loves him but I just couldn’t do it. I enjoy the Primal Instinct series as a whole…but since I did not like either character in this one….it’s a DNF for me. I will continue to read this series though in the hopes that the next book doesn’t rub me the wrong way. I normally really enjoy Ms Byrd’s writing. Gorgeous cover though! LOVE that!

I give a DNF rating to Deadly Is The Kiss by Rhyannon Byrd
