Alright, that’s out of my system…ok I lied…but I will try to keep myself from scaring Larissa away…hehe.
*Waving Frantically* Hi Larissa, thank you so much for coming over! I am so excited (can you tell) to ask you some questions that I am sure everyone wants to know! I was turned on to your work by Cynthia Eden about a year and a half ago and I blew through your backlist extremely quickly. Now I am like everyone else…sitting on pins and needles…waiting for the next release. But, before we get to the current stuff let’s go to the past. You have done and seen so much in your lifetime thus far…what would you say has been your biggest accomplishment…either personal or professional.
Professionally…it has to be getting published. That was a dream of mine since I was a kid. So I guess it could be a personal accomplishment as well, but since it turned into a career…I’ll count it on the professional side. 🙂 Personally, it’s a tossup between making it through Air Force basic training…and graduating #1 from EMT school. Basic training because joining the military was a big turning point in my life — I am where I am because I made that choice. Basic wasn’t easy, but I did it, and I’m pretty proud of myself. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. The EMT school thing…might not sound like a big deal, but I’m terrified of needles, and I have a tendency to pass out at the sight of blood, so to have made it through without freaking out or fainting…big accomplishment for me. And to do it and come out with the best grade? It was awesome! 🙂
Wow, see I could never join the military and be an EMT, though both are so commendable. I have huge issues with people screaming in my face…which I hear happens often in basic training LOL. I don’t mind needles but blood kinda freaks me out. I don’t want it on me. I’m slightly germaphobic too, which is another issue. You really have done so much and you managed a family in there too. I know your close to your family too. Daughter, wife, mother and writer extraodinaire…how do you fit it all in?
LOL — honestly, I don’t think I do a very good job. I haven’t learned balance. I always have the computer on my lap, so it feels like I’m working 24/7. BUT…I think that recently things have started to shift. I have an office now, so I’ve started working all day in there, and then leaving the computer so I’m with the family at night with no interruptions. It’s been really nice.
Congratulations on getting an office! I think it will really help you have more stable work hours. And now you can decorate it in all your writing awards..and pictures of hot guys…you know, for inspiration 🙂 Speaking of office hours, what do you do in non office hours then? What do you enjoy in your downtime? Do you even get downtime?
LOL — downtime? That’s funny? When I do find some, which doesn’t happen often lately, I like to read, watch movies, and play RPG’s on the computer. I’m currently obsessed with Dragon Age.
I love movies, but find my time is so short these days that I usually end up watching tv WHILE reading a book. I multitask everything. But I totally understand you not having much time. You just finished up your Demonica series and are starting a new series, Lords of Deliverance, which is loosely based on the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse (though I understand one is female, love the twist)…can you tell us anything about this new series?
Well, it’s a spinoff of the Demonica series, and really, more of a continuation with new players. You’ll see a lot of the Demonica crew, and get updates and stuff. The series is basically about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and yes, with twists. 🙂 Their fate is in their own hands…when their Seals break, they can either go evil or good, and they’re all in a fight for their souls — and for the human race.
To say I am excited about this would be a HUGE understatement! I feel another SQUEEEEEE coming on! I loved loved loved your Demonica series! Not only do you write as yourself but you co-write with another author a completely different series of books under the name Sydney Croft. How does that work?
Basically, Stephanie (Tyler) writes the heroes and I write the heroines. We have traded off a little and we share some characters, but we pretty much just write a scene and pass it to the next person without really discussing much. It’s more fun that way, to see how the characters react to what the first character does. It’s more real-life that way, since you never truly know how your partner will react to something, especially when you’re just developing your relationship.
That’s an accomplishment right there…that has got to be a whole lot of work! But I assume some are easier and others take more time. Which book or series have you enjoyed writing the most? Which gave you the most trouble?
In the Demonica series, Wraith’s book was the easiest. His book just flowed, and I loved writing it. On the other hand, Ecstasy Unveiled gave me hell. OMG, I was ready to throw myself off a bridge a few times with Lore’s book! In the Croft series, Unleashing The Storm was the easy one. I swear, that book wrote itself. Tempting The Fire made Steph and I want to jump off a bridge together…
I loved Wraith’s book. I do believe it was my favorite…well then there was Sin’s story…awww who am I kidding I loved them all. BUT there is something about an extremely mean guy with a heart of gold…*sigh* You said Wraith’s was the easiest… what is your writing process like? Do you do a story line first or does everything just kind of flow out?
Well, because my contracts require a synopsis before I write the book, I have to outline each book a little. Problem is, the story NEVER turns out like the synopsis. And the thing is, I never write two books the same way. Some I need to plot out, and others I wing. The ones I wing seem to need the most revisions. See above about Ecstasy Unveiled! *g*
Being on this side of the book I don’t think people realize all the work that truly goes into not only the set up but the execution of each individual story. I am so glad for it though, truly. Thank you for fueling my guilty pleasure! Speaking of guilty pleasures…do you have any you would like to share with everyone?
Bacon. I try to live a vegetarian lifestyle, but dear Lord, I freaking LOVE bacon.
hmmmmm BACON…thats sounds yummy. Well you know my guilty pleasure is reading but who do YOU read? What are you reading right now? What authors do you enjoy?
Right now I’m reading an ARC for a quote, and really enjoying it. (Can’t say what yet *g*) What authors do I enjoy? There are SO many in romance that I can’t list them all. Outside romance I adore Sharon Kay Penman and Robert Jordan. I’m so sad that he passed away. 🙁
Seriously? Your gonna do that to me? Wahhhhhh! lol..ok I will ask you later 🙂 But if your reading it for a quote then it must be great!
And finally my last question, which I ask everyone that stops by my blog….If Hollywood came calling today who would you want to play the main characters in your latest book? (Sin Undone)
Ack! I can’t even begin to suggest actors. The only ones I’ve ever had in my head are Josh Holloway from Lost as Wraith, Julie Benz (oooh are you a Buffy and Angel fan, cuz she played Darla, love her) as Serena, Melissa Archer (Natalie from One Life To Live,) as Tayla, and Oded Fehr as Kynan. So, okay, I guess I did begin to suggest actors! 🙂
All fine picks…and some new ones that aren’t on the extremely popular list..which I like!
Larissa Ione, an Air Force veteran, has been a meteorologist, EMT, and professional dog trainer, but she never gave up on her dream of being published. In 2006 her dream came true, and she is now a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author. She is lucky enough to write full-time, which is a blessing given her husband’s very mobile military career. Though she considers the Pacific Northwest to be her home, she has lived all over the world and currently resides in Wisconsin.
So who wants a giveaway? Huh huh? I am going to offer any of Larissa’s backlist from thebookdepository.com . You need to leave a comment and make sure you include a way for me to get in touch with you if you win.
