Carrie Ann Ryan Guest Post and GIVEAWAY

Series are for Me!

Are you a series reader? I totally am. I can’t bring myself to read singles titles and seem to be drawn to series? Why you ask? Well, first it’s because of my book budget. You know, that elusive amount of $$$ you can spend on books a month that seems to get smaller each month? LOL

I want to invest my reading time and $$$ in a world for more than one book. I can’t help it. I don’t want to say goodbye to the characters when I turn the page, but I also don’t want to wait until book 2 or 3 for an HEA. See? I’m neurotic apparently. I like my H/h to have an HEA at the end of their book but I don’t want to say goodbye. I want them in the background for the rest of the series so I can see what they’re up to. I want to know that the background characters from book 1 are going to get their HEA as well.

That’s not picky…right?

I love writing series for those same reasons. I love dropping hints about later characters and frankly this is where my new characters reveal themselves to me. I love going back to older characters and see where they’re at.

I don’t knowing that’s the end. I can get over it if there are 3 or more books in a series. But after one book? I can’t let go. I’m annoying like that.

In my Holiday, Montana series you get to know the Cooper brothers and the whole town. Each of my five, sexy, Cooper brothers get their own story in this series so I get to drop hints as to what their story may be like. Yes, you get to know Matt and Jordan and see their love story, but you also get to meet the men and some of the gals from the future of the series. With each series I get to start new and find a new world. That’s why I’m a series girl. Because I just can’t let go.

What about you? Why do you love series?

Carrie Ann Ryan is a bestselling paranormal and contemporary romance author. After spending too much time behind a lab bench, she decided to dive into the romance world and find her werewolf mate – even if its just in her books. Happy endings are always near – even if you have to get over the challenges of falling in love first.

Her first book, An Alpha’s Path, is the first in her Redwood Pack series. She’s also an avid reader and lover of romance and fiction novels. She loves meeting new authors and new worlds. Any recommendations you have are appreciated. Carrie Ann lives in New England with her husband and two kittens.

Charmed Spirits

Holiday, Montana Book 1

Jordan Cross has returned to Holiday, Montana after eleven long years to clear out her late aunt’s house, put it on the market, and figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Soon, she finds herself facing the town that turned its back on her because she was different. Because being labeled a witch in a small town didn’t earn her many friends…especially when it wasn’t a lie.

Matt Cooper has lived in Holiday his whole life. He’s perfectly content being a bachelor alongside his four single brothers in a very small town. After all, the only woman he’d ever loved ran out on him without a goodbye. But now Jordan’s back and just as bewitching as ever. Can they rekindle their romance with a town set against them?

Warning: Contains an intelligent, sexy witch with an attitude and drop-dead gorgeous man who likes to work with his hands, holds a secret that might scare someone, and really, really, likes table tops for certain activities. Enough said.

Excerpt:

Matt Cooper walked into the hardware store in a daze, his body going through the motions while his mind tumbled in an array of memories, anger, and longing.

She’s back.

Jordan Cross, his high school love and childhood best friend…back. She’d left without a word, leaving a mess of dashed possibilities and his broken heart in her wake.

But, Jesus, she looked even better than before.

Her green eyes seemed darker, more haunted or sorrowful, than before, like she’d fought more than she’d bargained for and was still losing. Her hair was longer now, very glossy sable locks falling to the middle of her back in careless waves. He’d had loved to run his fingers through it when they sat at the lakeside watching the sun set.

Yes, they’d been that clichéd in high school, but he’d loved her.

Loved.

Past tense. Because he didn’t love her anymore. She’d left him. Left him with his problems, his everything and yet nothing.

Matt shook his head and went behind the counter, trying to ignore the dull pain in his temples. Darn witch, she shouldn’t be here. He didn’t want to think about her. Didn’t want to deal with it all over when she left again.

  3. I love series as well but I’m a bit impatient. I usually wait until the series is over and purchase all the books at once or wait to invest into a series until there are at least 2-3 books already released.

    1. Yes, I’m the same way sometimes. If its a newer to me author, then I wait until there are 2-3 books out. But if its an author I already love, I can’t stop myself and buy the book ASAP! LOL

  4. totally love series books revisiting characters and hearing about new ones, i just get frustated waiting for the next one, but so love getting bits to read to keep you going, got to say ive loved all of Carrie Ann’s books and can’t wait for more

  5. I love series! I will read a stand alone novel, but I prefer a series because I like to see characters evolve, and others that are not the focus of the first novel have their story told. It’s sad to me when a story is just over. Love all of your books!

  6. I think that one of the best things about a series is that you get to see what happens to the other characters that pop into the first book. I can’t be the only one who is always wondering what happened to this character or that. Like the best friend, they always have a huge part of the main character’s life, but when you don’t go into a series what happens to them is lost. Oh another thing about series that is so much fun is rereading the books that have come out before the current release. I for one am so Glad for authors like you Carrie who love series, it is because of you and other authors like you that I have to continue reading! Keep up the great work, and I am really looking forward to reading your new releases, current releases, and past releases over and over again.

  7. I’m a total series reader! I gotta have the HEA but, like you, I also want to know what happens next with the happy couple! Thanks for sharing the excerpt and the chance to win!

  8. i too love series, it is always so much fun to find out what is going on with charcters from previous books. cant wait for the next one.

  9. The longer the series the better off I am! I am definitely a series reader and very rarely have I ever read single-books because I enjoy the character development and backstory as I begin the next book in the series.

  10. I love series also! Sometimes you can’t tell the whole story in one book and it’s nice to visit your favorite friends in a new story!

  11. Hi, Carrie Ann: I do read some series, especially mystery ones. However, I haven’t written any. I put all my stories in one small town, though. Lovely to seeyou today!

  12. I love reading series. You get to know the characters so much better. There’s more time do develop them more and we get to see more of the secondary characters.

  13. I too, prefer a series. There is more plot and character definition over all in a series. You become more involved and feel like you are part of the story as well. I like feeling involved with the characters, sometimes you wish you could offer advice or warnings then you know the story line and series is very well written.

  14. Like you, Carrie Ann, I love reading AND writing series! What’s really cool is that in the eReader world, readers prefer LONGER ebooks. Partly because eReaders make reading faster thanks to larger font and more leading space. So as an indie author, not only can I write a series as long as I want, I can write longer individual books because I don’t have print’s limitations (how many fit on a shelf or in a box).

But some of my fav series get stale or have a book that is “off”. So the question is how do you keep your series engaging and not get what I call the “series soggy middle”????

  15. I love series. I love to be able to follow along with the characters and their stories. I love to see how the characters grow and progress. I also love secondary characters when they get their Happily Ever After. These characters make me come back to want to read more.
Love Carries’ books. Big fan of the Redwood Pack seriies and have heard great things about this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  16. I agree I love reading and writing series books. Getting to know your characters and see them pop up later on is great. I don’t care if it is a contemp series, a historical or a paranormal I like to know what is happening with the characters I fall in love with.

  17. I think that’s why I fell in love with the Cynsters’ and their series by Stephanie Laurens and the Bridgerton’s by Julia Quinn. I love to see the continuation of the story, it just reinforces the romance between the previous characters, and as the stories progress you learn about the future heroes and heroines so you’re already half in love with them when you pick up their story. If I’ve already read the first few in a series, you better believe I’m buying a new one as soon as it comes out. I would love to be able to write a series, but until I do, I’ll settle for reading them.

  18. Some series based on specific characters, I really love; you get to see how these characters grow, how their relationship changes to fit, how the friends and family also adapt.

  19. Books are my escape to another world! When an author can bring out such an amazing world that makes you butty and cannot put the book down… you know you have a seriously good book in your hands! Series are always fun to read because I never like to let go of the people i just read… so when the next book comes out I get all giddy when you find out what the previous couple is up to! BOOK FREAK… That’s me!!!!

  20. i do enjoy a good series because it lets me follow my fave characters and see how their lives change and progress over time 🙂

  21. Congrats on the book! I like series because you can find out about the characters after the happily ever after.

  22. I totally agree with your thoughts on series. I want a HEA by the end of book one too but it is nice since I know that if I loved book one then probably the other books are going to be good to and worth buying. Thanks for sharing the book

  23. (jumping up and down) That’s exactly why I love series books!!! I just can’t let go and I want to ‘live’ in my happy little world as long as possible!! Cannot wait to learn about ALL of the Cooper boys…yum! Wonder who will be my favorite? (taps her chin and wonders)

  24. I loved this book! And I have to admit I’m a series reader. I tend to prefer them to stand alones. I can’t wait to meet the kind of women deserving of the other equally hot Cooper brothers!

  25. Hi Carrie Ann i love read the cover, well i love all your covers for your books 🙂 and i love series cant get enough of character i like

  26. Love series that have you wanting more!! They draw you in with the story and characters!! LOVED “Charmed Spirits” and I was not only hooked on the Cooper brothers but the entire concept.
Its having to wait til the next book to come out that are bad. However, I take that time to catch up on the Author’s other books/series 🙂

  27. That’s how I love my series too. I want HEA and the ability to check up on them later. I really love when they meddle in other characters lives to give the new h/H that push to fall in love
