Best Books of 2012

Nikki – Well that’s it folks. 2012 has come to a close. The Mayans were wrong, we’re still here and I probably shouldn’t have done a bunch of things this year hinging on the idea that I wouldn’t have to answer for them in 2013 since the world was ending. Sigh. Hindsight is a bitch. What this year was though was AWESOME for book releases. Sure we got that 50 book, but you won’t be seeing that on my list of awesome books you’ve missed out on. Nope. Instead you get these awesome books/series I read and devoured. Just assume I’m talking the entire series here, because I can’t just pick 1 book out of each. That’s the perk of having this be MY blog. I can do what I want ūüėČ

11. Angel In Chains by Cynthia Eden (The Fallen) – I absolutely adore Cynthia’s writing. Her females are strong and her heros are alpha. Her Fallen Angel series is no exception which makes this a read that I HAVE to talk about. Great story lines and awesome action scenes.

10. Eventide by Elle Jasper (The Dark Ink Chronicles) – Riley Poe is one of the best female leads I’ve read in a long time. She’s completely¬†unconventional¬†and I find that this series is getting better with each book! With the 4th book (Black Fallen) now out, I hope readers enjoy the lore that this series provides. While I didn’t love book 4, books 1-3 solidified me into a devoted fan!

9. Killing Rights by M.L.N. Hanover (The Black Suns Daughter) – Simply put one of the best urban fantasy series I’ve ever read! There is a great combination with uf, paranormal and romance that just keeps me coming back. Shadowy characters keep me guessing and I am eagerly awaiting book 5….

8. Shadows Before The Sun by Kelly Gay (Charlie Madigan) – Another awesome urban fantasy series I read this year! Strong female lead, Charlie and her¬†incredibly¬†sexy partner Hank kept me turning page after page. The sexual tension in this series was so well done! I read 4 books in 4 days…couldn’t get enough.

7. Inside Bet by Katie Porter (Top Guns) – Katie Porter was a new to me author this year and I’m so glad I picked this one up. Was probably the sexiest book I read. Over the top scenes and smoldering characters made this one a must read. Plus it incorporated a few sexual kinks I had never seen approached before. I appreciate the variation.

6. ¬†Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson – Gah! This book is HILARIOUS. Enough said.

5. Echoes At Dawn by Maya Banks (KGI) Р BEST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE SERIES HANDS DOWN. Every book is an extension on the last. Smoking hot men and story lines that both chill and excite me. Each Kelly brother comes with their own unique baggage and the female leads never disappoint.

4. Reflected In You by Sylvia Day (Crossfire) – 50 what? That overblown book doesn’t hold a candle to Sylvia Day’s books. I LOVE this series. Sensual, erotic and a full of yumminess. Gideon makes me swoon! I also enjoy the growing each character is doing throughout the book.

3. Forever And A Day by Jill Shalvis (Lucky Harbor) – Shalvis writes funny, witty contemporary romance. Her town of Lucky Harbor never ceases to amuse me. Everyone deserves a happy ending and Shalvis does it with grace and¬†determination. She is an auto buy for me for a good reason….she hasn’t wrote¬†anything¬†I didn’t like.

2. Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione (Lord’s of Deliverance) – The Four Horseman series is an awesome paranormal romance that has wormed it’s way into my heart. Filled with angst and lots of mythical lore the characters are family at it’s best….and worst.

1. The Siren by Tiffany Reisz (The Original Sinners) – There are no words to describe this series. I find myself¬†floundering¬†every time I try. Dark, gritty and wickedly erotic this series isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s gut¬†wrenching¬†and all consuming….and just filled to the brim with dirty sexing.

Pam – I am amazed it is almost the end of 2012.¬† I am not sure where the year went however it was filled as usual with some great books.¬† I found so many ‚Äúnew to me‚ÄĚ authors that I loved and quickly looked to see if they had a backlist.¬† I absolutely fell in love with books by Jillian Stone, she writes about such wonderful characters and their complicated lives.¬† Most on my list are part of a series which is great because there will be more in 2013.

1. ¬†A Rogue by Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels) ‚Äď Sarah MacLean

2. About Last Night ‚Äď Ruthie Knox

3. The Moonstone and Miss Jones (Paranormal Investigator) ‚Äď Jillian Stone

4. The Seduction of Phaeton Black (Paranormal Investigator) ‚Äď Jillian Stone

5. ¬†An Affair with Mr Kennedy (The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard) ‚Äď Jillian Stone

6. Thief of Shadows (Maiden Lane) ‚Äď Elizabeth Hoyt

7.  Firelight (Darkest London) Kristen Callihan

8.  Moonglow (Darkest London) Kristen Callihan

9.¬†¬†The Trouble with Cowboys (Catcher Creek) ‚Äď Melissa Cutler

10.¬†¬†Sultry with a Twist (Sultry Springs) ‚Äď Macy Beckett

Michelle–¬†When I was asked to contribute my “Top 10 of 2012” for the blog, I jumped on it.¬† Three weeks later I was scratching my head, still trying to figure out exactly what books actually earned a top ten spot. I love to read, and I read a lot.¬† If there were more hours in a day AND I didn’t have two jobs AND I had a nanny/chef/cleaning lady, I would read a lot more!¬† Many, many really good books have entertained me this year, but in my opinion, a “top 10” book should be more than¬†really good.¬† Looking back on the books I finished, I only had a few 5 star reads.¬† Huh.¬† Nowhere near ten.¬† So I had to jump down to the 4 star reads and figure out what would make one better than another.¬† It’d be easier trying to write my OWN top 10 book!¬† Or not.¬† Anyway, here goes:

1. Sinful¬†(Charlotte Featherstone 2010) –¬†This book was so beautiful and tragic and romantic and sexy and sad –¬†immediately a 5 star read.¬† Matthew was so¬†cynical and cold … until he met Jane.¬† All she wanted to do was love and heal him.¬†¬†I don’t know that I’ve ever wanted two people to have their happy ever after more than Matthew and Jane.

2. Forever and a Day¬†(Jill Shalvis 2012) –¬†I loved this book.¬† LOVED IT.¬† Josh was the bomb, even when he was making a complete ass of himself.¬† I loved him and Grace together.¬† Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite authors and this Lucky Harbor series should be a must read for romance fans.

3. Lucky in Love¬†(Jill Shalvis 2012) – You know it’s a sign of an outstanding book when you sit down to read and do not even move until you’ve finished the book.¬† I adored Mallory.¬† I want to be her friend.¬† Heck, I want to be HER.¬†¬†I loved how much she and Ty wanted each other, despite knowing they were all wrong for each other!

4. Rainshadow Road (Lisa Kleypas 2012) РThe beginning of this book bored me.  The middle barely managed to hook me.  The ending completely wowed me.  I could re-read the last few chapters a dozen times. Talk about tugging the heartstrings!

5. Darker After Midnight¬†(Lara Adrian 2012) –¬†I had so many feelings to process after finishing this book.¬†Lara Adrian has created an exceptional cast of characters, and her writing talent truly shines in the way she was able to put the spotlight on every member of the Order. I fell a little bit in love (again) with each of the warriors in the process of reading this book. Romance aside, this book is a stunning continuation of the story between the Order and Dragos.

6. The Many Sins of Lord Cameron¬†(Jennifer Ashley 2011) – Cameron and Ainsley were such fun.¬†¬†He was a “wreck of a man” and he knew it, but he wanted her to want him anyway. Ainsley simply had a weakness for all things Cameron Mackenzie.¬†Theirs was a lovely romance and this book was a wonderful lead-up to Hart’s story.

7. Show No Mercy¬†(Cindy Gerard 2008) –¬†It surprises me to admit it, but I loved this book. I’m not normally a fan of the enemies-to-lovers scenario, but in this instance I enjoyed it.¬†¬†I adored Gabriel. There is just something about a big, tough, scarred, wounded hero that cuts right to the heart of me. And to Jenna, too, it seemed. I liked that her vulnerability and her love for Gabe really mellowed her out.

8. Under the Wire¬†(Cindy Gerard 2006) –¬†This book was so good! I wasn’t expecting much, considering I didn’t love the previous book in the series, and I didn’t really know anything about Manny Ortega – couldn’t really picture him as a hero. Wow was I wrong. His and Lily’s love story was tragic and touching and adventurous.

9. Pride and Passion¬†(Charlotte Featherstone 2011) –¬†I loved this book, simply because of the Duke of Sussex. It’s always the quiet ones, you know?¬†¬†When Adrian sets his mind to winning Lucy over, there was no resisting him. She tried. She could hold a grudge and be in a snit with the best of them, but eventually his kindness, thoughtfulness, genuine emotion and oh so sexy ways caved in the walls around her heart.

10. Defiant (Pamela Clare 2012) РThis was such a romantic book.  Connor and Sarah were really put through the wringer before they earned their happy ending. I loved the way his feelings for her completely sneaked up on Connor. He was a guy who never gave much thought to his future or of having a family beyond his brothers and their families. It was beautiful to watch how much Sarah came to mean to him.
