Maggie is a wolf shifter who was captured and experimented on by the Kurjans. Now that a cure has finally been found for shifters (although not for vampire mates or witches), she can concentrate on creating a new life for herself and finally accepting that her memories are gone forever. Most memories, that is. Sometimes in the hazy world between dreams and dawn, she hears a Scottish voice, dark and deep, that sounds suspiciously like wolf-shifter Terrent Vilks. A man she happened to anger by kidnapping a few years back. Hey, it was for a good cause.

Terrent Vilks knows more than he’s let on for the past several years. After digging for answers, he knows exactly why the demons want Maggie dead. And he remembers his past with Maggie…very well. She is finally where he wants her. Now all he has to do is discover what exactly the Kurjans did to her, beat the demons into so much submission they leave her alone, and get her to fall in love with him. Again. Good thing he’s used to wrangling monsters.

Twisted is an excellent addition to an excellent series I have long been a supporter of! I really like how authors are giving readers novellas in between full length books to keep everyone coming back and interested. Rebecca Zanetti is always at the top of my list of “must reads”.

Maggie is finally able to shift at will again after being shackled for so long by a disease injected in her by the Kurjans. Used to living with the vampires that saved her she finally agrees to visit her own kind on a mission for the vampire king. Her memory never returned with the gift to shift and so her past is lost to her. Except a voice that haunts her dreams. A voice that sounds exactly like the thorn in her side, Terrent. The shifter has been checking up on her for years, trying to get her to go back to her people. Though he stirs long dead emotions in her, Maggie can’t seem to find it in her to follow him back home.

Years ago Terrent lost the woman he loved to the Kurjans. That woman was Maggie unbeknownst to her. He’s been doing his best ever since to keep tabs on her hoping her memories would eventually return. Terrent realizes his time has run out after an attack. She needs to remember her past, their past, or they may not have a future together. They may not have a future at all.

There is just something about this series that keeps me coming back. Zanetti weaves every story with a fluidity that I find lacking in a lot of books. These are easy to read, engaging, action packed, scorching hot books! Terrant has got to be the most patient man on the planet. He’s waited a long time for Maggie to come back to him on her own terms. He wanted her to remember what they had on their own. Even when it’s apparent to him that he’s going to have to nudge her along,  he takes his time, gradually easing her back in. Easing her back into her feelings for him with a stealthiness that should be rivaled by Ninjas. That woman had no idea what hit her when he turned on the charm.

I was really glad Maggie got her own book, even if it was a novella. She’s lived with having no past for so long, believing herself having nothing to give to anyone else. She was always present but seemed to hold herself at a distance from most everyone. I enjoyed watching her open herself up to her true nature and re-discover how strong she can really be. I think the story could have been a bit longer because I would have liked to see Maggie learn to control her shifting a bit better then she was able to, but perhaps there will be more on that with glimpses in upcoming books.

Jase makes appearances in Twisted in preparation of him coming front and center in book six, Shadowed, due out this fall. Ever since his return from being held captive for years, he’s been volatile in a way none of his brothers know how to heal. He’s smart, lethal and completely on edge. To say I’m eager for this book would be a vast understatement…..I CANNOT WAIT.  I do not recommend reading these out of order…but trust me…you’ll love this series just as much as I have! Rebecca Zanetti is a master story teller!

I give Twisted by Rebecca Zanetti 4.50 stars!
